Mark Hayward used Twitter to help save a dog’s life.

Culebra Island, Puerto Rico

When a stray dog collapsed in front of Mark Hayward’s home, his first thought was to try to save her. A ferry ride to the nearest vet revealed that the dog suffered from malnutrition, dehydration, mange and a deeply entrenched heartworm parasite. The dog could be saved—the only problem was the cost.

Mark tweeted a plea for help to his followers, but the response wasn’t enough to pay for the dog’s needs.

Not ready to give up, he then tweeted to actress and activist @Alyssa_Milano, who donated and retweeted his call for help. Her followers retweeted the request and within 24-hours they raised over $1000 to pay for the dog’s recovery. The dog, now named Lilly, has fully recovered and lives with an adopted family in Charleston, South Carolina, USA.
